Happy bday to u my fren... anyway, sorry for the delay in uploading, i was away on cheng beng without the internet. If any of you bloggers want a direct link to these pictures, leave me a message n ill sent you the direct link URL's. Pictures are in chronological order, and sorry about the high number of out of focus shots... i juz shot blindly that day coz it was too dark.
25th Feb 2006Aerial photographs
These photos were taken on the way back from Cambodia. I checked, theyre sharper than Google Earth! Waahahahha!
25th Feb 2006Tonle Sap and Siem Reap Town - Day 3
The next day, we went to Tonle Sap, the largest lake in South East Asia. Its huge of course, its about 7000km square during the dry season and 16000 square km during the wet season. Theres a floating village there thats interesting. Along the way, there were alot of poor people, unimaginably poor. Then we headed to Artisans de Angkor, a place where apprentice craftsman learn how to do woodwork, sandstone carving, silk weaving... etc etc. After that we visited an ancient dam which is still filled with water today. Its perfectly rectangle, 11km by 8.8km. COMPLETELY dug out by hand with a temple in the middle. Crazy! Theres nothing much to see there, its a waste of time in my opinion. Day 4 has no pictures, so thats all for my trip! Hope to go back there soon...
25th Feb 2006Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat - Day 2
Here are pics of Ta Prohm, the jungle temple where the show Tomb Raider was shot. Its pretty big with alot of trees growing on the ruins. The we headed to the main attraction which was of course Angkor Wat. There wasn't much to photograph at Angkor Wat compared to the rest, but in the end the best photographs of the trip were from here. I guess the beautiful evening light gave it a little magic and the day ended with a fabulous sunset not found everyday...
24th Feb 2006Angkor Thom - Day 2
There are too many pictures of Day 2. So ill divide them up again. In the morning we went to Angkor Thom, an ancient capital. It has 5 gates, a temple called Bayon Temple, Baphuon Temple and the Royal Enclosure. WARNING: pictures might be boring if you're not exactly interested in this. Ta Phrom and Angkor Wat to come soon...
22nd Feb 2006Siem Reap, Cambodia - Day 1
After touching down at the airport, we headed straight to the hotel, then lunch and a whole day in Siem Reap town basically walking around. Somehow there are tons of toyota's there. I havent seen such a high density of Toyota Camry's ever in my life. Roads the width of the road in front of your house (if ur in Malaysia) are actually called main roads there. Additionally, its very dusty and muddy. People there are very friendly, and it actually felt safer than Bali or Hatyai at night. I guess people there are less materialistic. Further details in the picture captions. Day 2 and 3 to come soon.
2nd Feb 2006Lion Dance at 1 Utama
Happy CNY everyone! There is a lion dance performance everyday at 4.30 pm at 1 Utama, but i dont know how long it will be there. The show was good, although it lasted only 15-20 minutes. Managed to get some decent shots, but there were alot of people. I had to go and book a place 30 minutes in advance...
17th Jan 2006Lady ladybird...
Some weeds in front of my neighbours house are infested with aphids. So there goes ladybird to work eating them up. Technical details : 300mm, 1:2, 1/200, f11, ISO 200. Off camera flash and fill flash from on board flash. Nikon's wireless creative lighting system is a dream come true!
16th Jan 2006H2O abstract
Some abstract shots i made using the Sigma APO lens in macro mode and WB changed to incandescent/tungsten. Jz shot around my garden.
15th Jan 2006KLCC Park
More photos of KLCC park from Kinokuniya. I forgot to upload these with the convention centre pictures.
8th Jan 2006KL Convention Centre
Shot the main image from Kinokuniya. Its not perfect enough for me as i had no tripod, and had to hand hold. Ill go back there soon for more... hehehe.
7th Jan 2006Cameron Highlands
Pics from a recent one night stay at Cameron Highlands. Alot of macro photos.
2nd Jan 2006Zoo Negara
Bad day for photography, cloudy... but nice day to walk. Quite a number of animals, but the animal show was pathetic. So short, and few animals in the show.
22nd Dec 2005Petaling Street and its surroundings
Jz some pics i took recently when i was around the area..
22nd Dec 2005Cats
More cats.
13th Dec 20053 shot composite
I finally get to do what ive always dreamed of for a LONG time. A 3 shot sequence composite of a pigeon landing. 3 photos of the pigeon were taken in sequence at 0.3 second intervals. The resulting composite shows wat happens in one second. Camera set to AF-C autofocus, continuous servo drive.
13th Dec 2005Pigeons
USJ 11 pigeons once again! haha..... but this time with my new lens. Quite satisfied, have to cope with the slower focusing. Many out of focus shots but on the whole satisfied!
13th Dec 2005Ants
While i was shooting the pigeons, i saw this row of ants walking as well. The evening yellow lighting was superb, so i took advantage of it. Many shots were blurred due to the telephoto lens and no tripod. I had to keep shooting at 3 frames per second to try to get a sharp photo. Deleted about 80% of the photos.
27th Nov 2005A trip to KL
I went to submit my TOEFL forms last week. Took LRT and monorail down. Here are some pics during the monorail journey and times square.
18th Nov 2005Serendah
Me n dad went to Serendah to look at some chalets, some pretty expensive, simple chalets that have no A/C, are in the jungle, really simple amenities and cost Rm 300 a night. The place could do well as a weekend getaway. Conclusion, nothing much to shout about. There was a waterfall nearby as well.
14th Nov 2005Cute animals
Today we went to Endah Parade for lunch, and there was this little animal show there. Luckily i brought my camera!
4th Nov 20051st model shoot
My sec school friend Sha May asked me to shoot some photos for her for an agency. I didnt know model photography can be so fun! haha... and im VERY satisfied with the result. At least now i have some idea of model photography. Thanks Sha May!
4th Nov 2005Deepavali
I went to Klang and Briekfields a day or two before deepavali to take photos of the stalls selling stuff.
31st Oct 2005Long awaited pics
Here are some pics of a water lily and some nice sky over taken over the past 1 week. I have a backlog of pics to edit... more coming soon.
14th Oct 2005Something out of the ordinary
Here are some abstract shots from today. These are pictures of smoke from an incense stick. The ones with the black backgrounds are straight out of the camera, with slight brightness/contrast adjustment. The white background is an inverted image. Used photoshop for the color.
11th Oct 2005Bukit Melawati
Next to Kuala Selangor Nature Park is Bukit Melawati. Its an old hill fortress used 200 years ago as a stronghold. Theres a lighthouse up there too. The monkeys there were cute. The adults are black but the babies are orange!
11th Oct 2005Kuala Selangor Nature Park
I went to KSNP with the main goal of photographing birds. When i got there, within 5 mins a monkey crawled on top of the car. There were so MANY monkeys there! The mosquitoes were AMAZING. At any time, there is a swarm following you at the back. If i stop to take pics, im sure to get 2 or 3 bites. KSNP is basically a swampy lake where migratory birds use as a temporary shelter. I saw egrets, herons, woodpeckers, bul buls, sunbirds, sandpipers, brahminy kites and many more. However, they were soo far away and were soo shy that i can never approach them close enough for pictures. So if you are expecting nice bird pics, be prepared to be dissapointed. There are nice scenery pics instead. Overall, a nice place, but it would be even more beautiful with the fireflies at night!
7th Oct 2005Hulu Langat Waterfall
I went to a waterfall with 5 of my uni frens today. Had lotsa fun! The water was sooo cold! Shiverrr.... Really beautiful place... Found a few mushrooms that were shaped like small cups too. Theyre really cute!
22nd Sep 2005Aquaria KLCC
Finally i get to go there. Thanks to Elaine once again for going with me. Theres quite a variety of fish there, as well as insects n lil critters. A nice place worth going once.

Pics are blur due to the poor lighting. Cannot use flash in there. Sigh.... anyway, if theres flash, there are gonna be reflections all over. All shots shot at ISO 1600, lens wide open. Shutter speeds were around 1/15-1/60. All handheld...
17th Sep 2005Random pics of a few things
Theres two pics of fish in my pond... another two of a "mother in law's tongue" plant. One mynah with the electrical wires, and another of a baby dragonfly... all these were caught durin my exam week. Nyehehhee..... still cant resist the cam!
17th Sep 2005Vapour stream...
My first shots during my hols! A jet passed overhead.. and left this interesting vapour shape.
17th Sep 2005Heliconia
Shots from today. From this collection onwards, all photos are shot in RAW format. So, all go through some form of photoshopping. Anyway, these are heliconias from my mums garden. Shot with a off camera flash. I just love the lighting. Its perfect! Everyone who can shoot RAW, pls SHOOT RAW!!!
13th Sep 2005A sky with an attitude
What a beautiful evening it was. The whole sky was yellow with a tinge of purple here n there. Finally an upload after so long. Exam week..... havent been taking tat many pics. Hope to get more during hols... and im addicted to RAW image format.... coz its sooo sharp n detailed.
5th Sep 2005A cat (duhhhh.....)
Once again my house was invaded by a cat. It entered my kitchen through the back door. Instead of shooing it away, why not take pics of it? It spent 20 minutes posing for me as i clicked and clicked away. All in my kitchen. Thankfully it wasnt as dirty as some other cats were. It was soooo playful. It was rubbing its body all over the place, except me and my camera of course. Plus, it had the most beautiful eyes ever despite its dirty appearance. It has these turqoise-bluish-greenish eyes. I wish humans do.... but i doubt it. A gal would look sooo beautiful in those... When i had enough, the hard part was getting it out. It loved to follow me around.... so i had to go out to the backyard, run quickly back into the house and shut the door behind me. Did it 5 or 6 times before i could isolate it. Aihh.... cats....
30th Aug 2005The Phantom of the Opera...
...by World Theatre students of TPM. A superb performance indeed! Cudos to all who participated in it! Interesting costumes were one interesting part. On my part, im not THAT satisfied with the pics... i think they could have been better. Theres just something lacking in them... no creativity probably, coz i juz sat at one place throughout the whole show. All photos taken at ISO 1600 which explains the noise. However, many are still blur coz the stage was dimly lit. Well, i need a F2.8 lens or something for better results too... at least its 2 stops faster than wat i have now... aihh... i want so many things..
26th Aug 2005A bicycle ride in the evening
Today I decided to pump up d tires of my bicycle and go out with my camera in d evening. I went to USJ 11's field first, where there was this huge flock of pigeons. The hawker nearby was feeding them. Shot lots of pics, but deleted lots too as most of d pics are nearly identical. After that i went to USJ 3. The backlane where sunset shots are always stunning and there are lotsa shrubs to macro. Came across a rambutan tree tats juz starting to bear fruits. The harmonius colors attracted my eye at once! The sunset wasnt as nice as i wanted it to be. Too many clouds. And as usual... i get stares from ppl as if im some paedophile taking pics of children at the playground, some burglar planning an attack when i take pics of some houses.... etc etc.... but wat the heck.... nevertheless, i had lotsa fun on my own...
25th Aug 2005Sunset & Twilight
The past few day's sunsets were as beautiful as ever. However wat interested me more was the short time of twilight which was exceptionally "not malaysian like". Twilight in malaysia is seldom this nice. By the way, twilight is the time just after the sun sets below the horizon and before the sky turns dark. At this time the sky is a beautiful dark blue, sometimes purple and it is the best time to view the planets. On tat day, I could see Jupiter and Venus. All pics are shot around my neighbourhood. A tip to those u want to shoot pics of sunsets, make sure u set ur white balance to sunlight, i feel automatic sometimes gives u false results, use a polarizing filter if u have one and by all means use a tripod or some form of support.
19th Aug 2005Sweet roses
Out of the blue, my neighbour gave my mum 20 roses that are apparently imported all d way from India. With a new subject in d house, how can Brandon resist not taking photos of them? Capturing how sweet they are was quite a tough job. Lighting played an important role. Key light was from off camera flash and a reflector was used to fill in shadows. How did i get the black background? Flash and careful control of the apperture is the answer.
14th Aug 2005Sunsets
Here are 4 pictures of two different days. The first two were taken long before the haze. The last 2 were taken when the haze juz started, it wasnt that severe yet then.
14th Aug 2005A fruitful collaboration
Heres somethign interesting. These photos cannot be shot by one person alone. My old fren Wei Min called me to help her with her photography project on Bulb exposures. So here are the results! Very cool stuff i usually wouldnt think of. Thanks to her creative ideas and my technical skills. Wei Min, next time muz collaborate summore! Some shots were shot with her Olympus E-300. Some with my cam. For those interested, exposure times ranged from 5 seconds to 15 seconds. The yellow streaks were made using a torchlight moved during the long exposure. The falling apples were caught using stroboscopic flash at 30 and 40 Hertz.
6th Aug 2005More TPM
More of TPM. Photos taken during the past one month. I still havent got enough of TPM honestly, in terms of pics... but in terms of stress, ENOUGH!
24th Jul 2005KL Fashion Week 2005
What a day! Once again i shot till my card was full. So many different clothes and designs... but wearable in daily life or not is a question for you to answer. This event went of without any glitches on my part, compared to the bridal cat walk which was a total mess. I finally got the camera settings right this time and managed to nail the exposure and white balance 90% of the time. Due to the lack of a tele, some pics in there are cropped. Also, theres a pic of a cute boy who went up on the catwalk in between the shows... he was in a daze when nearly all the photogs there (bout 20-30) started taking pics of him. His father quickly pulled him away. Excellent day~!
21st Jul 2005Just one pic
Before i left for 1U to catch that fashion show, there was this butterfly in my garden. Shot with my ol' Nikon 5700. Comparing it to my new cam in terms of image quality, in terms of noise, theres not much difference at low ISO levels but my D70s outperforms it at higher ISO's. I upgraded mainly due to speed and responsivenes.... my 5700 is a real sluggish camera...
20th Jul 2005A lily flower examined
Finally back to some nature pictures. My mum's white water lily bloomed again after a looonnnggg time. Mostly taken with my old camera coz my new one cant take close ups. The night it opened, it was raining so the petals were somehow blown out of shape by the wind. It corrected itself the next day....
17th Jul 2005Bridal Fashion Show
Taken at 1 Utama where they held the show. 1st time shooting a catwalk event. I had no idea of what the perfect photo is.. so i juz relied on my own judgment. I forgot to bring my other set of rechargeable batteries for the flash.. so i had to waste money on some alkalines bought at Giant. LOTS of constructive criticism and tips required and FAST! Next week's KL fashion week. Hope to learn some stuff before that. All shots were taken with the 18-70 lens on my cam... Who owns a Nikon mount telephoto lens?? pls pls pls i need 2 borrow it next weekend!!!!
10th Jul 2005Hot gals!
Heres the other part of the car show.... the more photogenic part in fact. Everyone was totally crazy over the gals there... had to squeeze with tons of ppl to get pics. This is my first experience shooting models. Quite satisfied with my results! I want a Sigma 70-300mm APO lens badly!!!
9th Jul 2005Hot cars!
Today i went to the Dreamcars Asia auto show in KL convention centre. After 6 hours of walking in there and a full 1 gig memory card, i called it a day. Well worth the RM 15 entrance fee. More to come tomolo.
6th Jul 2005Although i hate them...
... i muz admit that theyre real good subjects for photography. All these cats belong to my neighbour next door and many have felt my wrath when they tresspass into my house. My slippers and the water hose are my primary weapons used to wage war with these guys... i tink the siamese looking one got hit by my slipper 3 times already... yet it still comes into my house. Btw, ive added a frame together with exposure details and a copyright. During my 1 week break, ill try to replace all the pics in this gallery with this format.
3rd Jul 2005More frangipani's
One interesting thing in damai laut is that it has many varieties of frangipani flowers. So many different shapes and colors!
3rd Jul 2005Damai Laut
Some of you might think im crazy. Driving for 2 and a half hours juz to get to damai laut to take photos. Plus... in a car with a faulty break servo. The car was emmiting a high pitched sound all the way. Irritating. Apparently it isnt that serious, if the break servo's go, the car will still be able to break, but without help from the electronics. The driver muz just push the break pedal harder... Anyway, it wasnt a very fruitful outing... the weather SUCKED big time! There were clouds all over. On the way it drizzled and it left me so worried. I only shot about 100 photos. Far below the normal amount i shoot on an outing. There was nothing much to take anyway. The tall building is a lighthouse which is situated at the jeti. Somehow the jeti is not used anymore. As for the main hotel building, it could have been nicer if the weather was right. I came home and realized i dun have an overall pic of the hotel buildings coz the sky was horrible. I hope ill be luckier next time.
29th Jun 2005New uni, new camera!
Took these pics during my 3 hour break between classes. For those of you who dont know, im no longer in monash. Ive transferred to Technologpy Park Malaysia Academy. Still doing biotech. All shot with my new Nikon D70s!! I juz love the wide angle shots... so detailed. I do miss telephoto and macro shots tho.. since i dun have those lenses *yet*. THe sky in these pics looks VERY blue coz i used a polarizing filter. Cuts off glare and reflections.
20th Jun 2005Who's this??
This is me! When i was 5 or 6 with the optical instruments i have been playing with. The picture with the "huge" camera around my neck was shot in Phuket when i was on a cruise. The last one is a current pic...
18th Jun 2005Odonata sp.
I spotted this dragonfly when i was shooting the lotus. It was still early in the morning and it hasnt warmed up enough to start flying. So it was still as a rock.... perfect for photos!
18th Jun 2005The second lotus flower
Here are some shots from this morning. The second lotus flower in my garden is finally blooming! More to come... if i do shoot some more.
17th Jun 2005Photo requests... and a little more
This gallery is for Tee Ying. Here are star pictures of the constellation Orion and the star clusters Pleiades and Hyades in Taurus. All pictures were taken in Bali except for the picture of mars. Taken from my front yard through a telescope when it was nearest to earth last year... or was it last last yr.. i dun really remember. Anyway, enjoy!
14th Jun 2005Latest lotus bloom
Mum's lotus is blooming again! This is one flower. Theres another going to open soon. So there should be another gallery coming up, if i take the photos =).
14th Jun 2005Some of my things
Some of my old stuff that i used when i was still using traditional silver halides. Theyre still all in working condition. The camera is a 13 year old Nikon F-801s. 100% magnesium alloy body which is very durable. After 13 years, still no faults! Touch wood!! The round, see through things are lens filters. The purple one (FL-W) is used to cancel out the greenish cast caused by fluorescent lighting. Digital cams dun need it as u can juz adjust the white balance. The other one is a polarizing filter, used to darken skies and minimize reflections. I wish i had that on my digital cam... no amount of photoshop can immitate the effects of a polarizer. Oh yea... its the same thing u use in physics class, the one that only allows light of a certain direction to pass through.

In another pic is the Tamron 28-135mm lens. A very old manual focus lens. Another is a standard 35-70mm AF nikkor lens.

THe last pic is part of the keyboard on my laptop. It has a pointing stick and no touchpad. That explains the red round thing.
More pics of my other equipment to come...
8th Jun 2005The sky's the limit!
8th June 2005 is my LUCKY day!!! The sun and clouds were aligned perfectly for the perfect shot!! Strong wind was blowing the clouds pretty fast, and the whole ordeal lasted about 3 minutes. I was upstairs in my mums room and suddenly saw it. Rushed down to grab my camera and went outside. Shit! The telephone wires are blocking! So i ran up to my mums room again, managed to shoot about 30 frames and it was all over! It was the happiest day of the month!!! Hahah... gave sook wai a shock summore... hehehe...
3rd Jun 2005Bali 2002
These pics are rather old. Theyre the 1st 1000 pics shot with my spanking new digital cam (at tat time larr... now its outdated...). I was looking at these pics, and found out that the pictures were mostly horrible if judged by my standards nowadays. That explains why there are only 39 pictures. I shot about 800 pictures during the 10 day trip. Some hotels are shown here, ive forgotten the names of them already and also some dances.
31st May 2005Green, yellow and black!
Just some theme that cropped into my mind. Enjoy!
29th May 2005Wesak 2005
Wesak day in SJBA. Was shooting pics for the temple. Here are some nice ones. Look at Chung Wei's gallery for more!
10th Apr 2005Zephal lilies
These flowers are quite popular. The plant is a small plant usually grown on the road divider near traffic lights in USJ. It has needle like leaves, quite thick ones. One unique thing about this plant is that it dries up during the dry season and looks as if it has no hope left to live. but once the rain comes, within 2 or 3 days it will DEFINITELY flower. Seems that the flowering mechanism is triggered by rain. Weird... but true...
10th Apr 2005Red red red!!!
Here are some pics of red stuff. Theres a close up of cut chillis, a closeup of a red ginger and some anthurium flowers. Most interesting is the shots of orange chrysanthemums floating on a bowl of water. Enjoy!
31st Mar 2005Frangipani
Frangipani's or bunga kemboja or scientifically known as plumera come in many colours! Surely u would see it once in ur lifetime if ur staying in south east asia. Here is the yellow and white variety. These plant is actually smuggled back from Bali in 2002. Haha... my parents loved it so much they took a cutting of it home. After about 2 years, its starting to flower all day and night... for me it could only mean one thing... more photo opportunities!
27th Mar 2005H2O
Some pics taken during the rainy season. All have water in it.
19th Mar 2005My House
Here it is, my humble abode. I lived here since i was 11. No regrets! Nice garden and house design are credited to mummy and daddy!
18th Feb 2005Putrajaya
The newest capital of malaysia! It has lots of nice bridges and buildings. Anyone interested in architectural photography must go there!
13th Feb 2005Pangkor Laut
Thanks to dad's company trip, i get to visit one of Malaysia's premier hotels. Its a private island on its own (not part of Pulau Pangkor, its a totally different island). Real nice beaches and jungle. The hotel is wonderful!!! Plus the package the company paid for offered free non-alcoholic drinks 24/7! Ahh... i drank all sorts of fruit cocktails! all freeee!!!!
24th Jan 2005Sunsets and sunrises worth a look
Some shots of our dear ol sun. Most are taken near my house with the exception of one that was shot in Malacca which shows layers of houses and mountains.
24th Jan 2005Merdeka 2004 at KLCC Fireworks Display
These pics were taken during the Merdeka celebrations in 2004x Exposure times range from 1 second to 4 seconds although 1 or 2 seconds seemed to work best. Here are a few worth displaying.
24th Jan 2005KLCC
The tallest building in the world! For now... I need to reshoot this building. I do not have enough good pics of it. Three of the pictures are shot from within KLCC before the security guard stopped me from taking some more. The other picture with the orange cloud behind the towers was taken after a fireworks display. The smoke from the fireworks were lit by yellow lights below. Another timely and lucky shot. More of the fireworks in another collection.
24th Jan 2005Insects & Spiders
My favourite critters! I love hunting and chasing them! In here ull find butterflies, spiders (a personal favourite), grasshoppers, bees and dragonflies! The small brown spider on the leaf with holes hopped right onto my camera lens after that shot. It started spinning web on it which was so hard to remove. Stupid proteins! Needed a damp cloth to take them out. I thought my lens was a goner!!!
24th Jan 2005Abstract Scenes
Abstract scenes... Im not so good at this genre. Anyway, there are pics of water droplets frozen by the electronic flash. The duration of the flashes are roughly 1/ 10, 000 of a second. Then there are 2 picture of blur streaks which is actually persiaran tujuan in USJ at night. A 4 second exposure coupled with the bumpy road made the effect. The picture of the pigeon on top of the clock is taken in Malacca. Also, theres a shot of the insides of the barrel of a 105 mm howitzer. Its those artillery guns the military uses to shell enemies. The curved grooves in the middle are used to make the shell spin to increase its accuracy and range.
